MG Motor Tyre Fitting Scotland: MG4, MG ZS, MG5, MG HS Guide

Mobile tyre fitting for MG Motor vehicles in Scotland. MG4 EV tyre sizes, MG ZS EV, MG5 EV, MG HS PHEV load index requirements, TPMS reset, and no-spare-wheel guidance.

# MG Motor Tyre Fitting Scotland

MG Motor's electric and plug-in hybrid range has rapidly become one of Scotland's most popular EV choices, with the MG4 EV consistently ranking among the UK's best-selling electric cars. As Scotland's mobile tyre fitting specialists, we stock and fit tyres for the full MG range across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and all of Scotland.

MG4 EV Tyre Guide (2022–present)

The MG4 EV is available in Standard Range, Long Range, and Trophy/Xpower variants. All share broadly similar tyre specifications but differ in wheel size:

MG4 VariantTyre SizeWheel
Standard Range 51kWh215/55R1717"
Long Range 64kWh235/45R1818"
Trophy Long Range235/45R1818"
Xpower Dual Motor235/45R1818"
Load index: 98+ required on most MG4 variants due to battery weight. Do not fit 94 or lower. No spare wheel — the MG4 EV does not carry a spare tyre. SAIC/MG supply a tyre inflation kit for minor punctures, but this cannot repair sidewall damage or large punctures. If your MG4 has a flat tyre that cannot be inflated, call Tyre Rescue immediately — do not drive on the damaged tyre. TPMS — the MG4 uses an indirect TPMS (it calculates pressure from wheel speed differences). After fitting new tyres, TPMS is reset via: Settings > Vehicle > TPMS Reset (with the vehicle stationary). If the warning light persists after reset, drive at 20–30 mph for a few minutes and it should clear.

MG ZS EV Tyre Guide (2019–present)

MG ZS EV VariantTyre SizeWheel
ZS EV Standard (pre-2022)215/55R1717"
ZS EV Long Range (2022+)215/55R17 or 215/50R1817" or 18"
ZS EV Trophy (2022+)215/50R1818"
No spare wheel — same as MG4. Inflation kit only. Call us for any non-repairable puncture. Load index: 98+ recommended for all ZS EV variants.

MG5 EV Tyre Guide (2021–present)

The MG5 is a battery-electric estate car — unique in its segment.

MG5 EV VariantTyre Size
MG5 EV Standard Range215/55R16
MG5 EV Long Range215/55R17
MG5 EV Trophy Long Range215/55R17
Load index: 98+ required. No spare wheel — inflation kit supplied.

MG HS Tyre Guide (Including PHEV)

MG HS VariantTyre SizeLoad Index Note
HS 1.5T petrol (2019–2022)215/55R1895+
HS 1.5T petrol (2022+)235/45R1999+
HS PHEV (plug-in hybrid)235/45R19101+ required
HS Trophy PHEV235/45R19101+
PHEV load index: the MG HS PHEV carries a significantly heavier battery pack than the standard petrol HS. Always use a minimum load index of 101 on the HS PHEV — do not fit standard-rated 95 or 99 tyres. HS does carry a spare — a full-size spare or space-saver depending on trim level and year. Confirm with your handbook.

MG Cyberster Tyre Guide (2024–present)

The MG Cyberster is MG's electric roadster, using staggered fitment:

  • Front: 245/45R20
  • Rear: 275/40R20

Staggered fitment means front and rear tyres are different sizes and cannot be rotated. Specify which axle needs replacement when calling. The Cyberster also uses direct TPMS sensors — replacement of a sensor requires a diagnostic reset.

MG TPMS Reset Procedure

For most MG models (MG4, ZS EV, MG5, HS):

  1. Inflate all tyres to the correct pressure (sticker inside driver's door)
  2. Sit in the vehicle with ignition on
  3. Navigate to: Settings > Vehicle > TPMS Reset
  4. Confirm reset
  5. Drive at 20+ mph for 5–10 minutes for the system to calibrate

If TPMS warning persists after the above, the sensor may need physical inspection. Call us — we carry replacement TPMS sensors for common MG sizes.

Why MG Tyres Are Different

MG EVs are heavier than equivalent petrol cars (the MG4 Long Range weighs approximately 1,750 kg vs 1,200 kg for a comparable petrol hatchback). This heavier kerb weight:

  • Requires higher load-index tyres
  • Increases wear rate — expect 20–30% shorter tyre life than an equivalent petrol car
  • Demands better wet-grip performance to stop the heavier mass

Our tyre recommendation for MG4 and MG ZS EV owners: Michelin Pilot Sport EV (specifically designed for EVs, OE fitment on many MG models), or Continental EcoContact 6 (excellent efficiency and wet grip for Scottish rain).
