# Mobile Tyre Fitting in Wick & Caithness
Tyre Rescue covers Wick, Thurso, and the wider Caithness region — Scotland's far north, including KW1 to KW14 postcodes. We're one of the few mobile tyre services that will travel this far north.
Why Caithness Needs a Dedicated Mobile Tyre Service
Caithness sits at the very tip of mainland Scotland — further north than parts of Denmark. The challenges here are unique:
- Long distances from major centres — Inverness is 104 miles from Wick
- Single-track roads with passing places and sharp verges
- NC500 tourist traffic — particularly heavy in summer, with unfamiliar drivers on challenging roads
- Minimal local tyre options — most garages are small and can't do roadside callouts
- Exposed A99 coast road — debris and weather damage are common
Areas We Cover in Caithness
Wick (KW1)The main town and county seat. We cover Wick town centre, Riverside Drive, and surrounding residential areas.
Thurso (KW14)Scotland's most northerly major town. We cover the town centre and the route to Scrabster ferry terminal.
Scrabster & John o'Groats (KW1, KW14)The northern ferry terminals are covered. John o'Groats is an NC500 endpoint — drivers who've completed the route often discover tyre wear here.
Lybster & Dunbeath (KW3, KW6)These south Caithness coastal villages on the A9 are within our extended coverage.
Halkirk & Watten (KW12)Inland Caithness villages accessible via the A882.
The NC500 in Caithness
The North Coast 500 route passes through Caithness along the A99 and A836. The coastal section from John o'Groats to Tongue is particularly demanding — narrow roads, gravel edges, and spectacular but isolated scenery.
If you pick up a tyre fault on the NC500 in Caithness:
- Pull off the road where safe — many stretches have no hard shoulder
- Call 0141 266 0690 immediately and describe your location (nearest village or kilometre marker)
- We'll give you an honest ETA and advise on next steps
The Orkney Ferry Connection
Thurso is the gateway for the NorthLink ferry to Orkney from Scrabster. If you're heading to the Orkney ferry and discover a tyre problem, call us immediately — we'll do our best to reach Thurso before your sailing. With sufficient notice, we can often intervene.
Response Times in Caithness
Due to the extreme distance from our dispatch centres:
- Wick / Thurso: typically 150–180 minutes (driving from Inverness area)
- John o'Groats: typically 160–200 minutes
- Dunbeath / Lybster: typically 130–160 minutes
We're transparent about these times. For remote callouts, we recommend calling the moment you notice a fault rather than waiting.
Emergency Help in the Far North
Call 0141 266 0690 — 24 hours a day. For Caithness callouts, we coordinate through our Highland operations to dispatch the nearest available fitter.
We always confirm the callout fee before dispatch. For very remote locations, a premium distance surcharge may apply — we'll always tell you before sending anyone.
Travel Tips for Caithness
- Check tyres before leaving Inverness — the last major town before the far north
- Carry basic tools — a good foam tyre sealant can be invaluable on remote stretches
- Know your tyre size — it's on the sidewall and in your handbook
- Download offline maps — mobile coverage drops in many Caithness glens
