The NC500 in Caithness

The North Coast 500 route passes through Caithness along the A99 and A836. The coastal section from John o'Groats to Tongue is particularly demanding — narrow roads, gravel edges, and spectacular but isolated scenery.

Thurso is the gateway for the NorthLink ferry to Orkney from Scrabster. If you're heading to the Orkney ferry and discover a tyre problem, call us immediately — we'll do our best to reach Thurso before your sailing. With sufficient notice, we can often intervene.

Response Times in Caithness

Due to the extreme distance from our dispatch centres:

• Wick / Thurso: typically 150–180 minutes (driving from Inverness area)
• John o'Groats: typically 160–200 minutes
• Dunbeath / Lybster: typically 130–160 minutes
