Current Ranger (2023–present, T6.2)

The current-generation Ranger launched for the 2023 model year with significantly upgraded powertrain and chassis options.

Standard variants (XL, XLT):

• 255/65R17 — the base tyre, fitted to 17" steel or alloy wheels
• Load index: 114 (1,180kg per tyre) — minimum for full payload Ranger use

Wildtrak:

• 255/60R18 on 18" alloy wheels
• Load index: 112 or 114 depending on the tyre specified

Sport:

• 265/60R18 or 255/60R18 depending on variant

Ranger Raptor:

• 285/60R18 — a significantly wider, more aggressive footprint
• The Raptor requires tyres rated for its specific suspension and off-road calibration. Do not fit a standard Ranger tyre to a Raptor.

• 255/70R16 — base fitment on 16" wheels

The Ford Ranger is a commercial vehicle (N1 category) when used for business purposes. The tyre load index must be sufficient to support the vehicle's maximum axle load.

Minimum load index recommendations:

• Standard Ranger (all variants): minimum LI 112 (1,120kg per tyre, 2,240kg per axle)
• Ranger with full 1,000kg payload: minimum LI 114 (1,180kg per tyre)
• Ranger Raptor (heavier chassis): verify against Raptor-specific documentation

Never fit passenger car (non-LT/C-rated) tyres to a Ford Ranger used for commercial loads. Even if the physical size fits, the tyre may not be rated for the axle loads.

• Falken Wildpeak AT3W: strong winter performance (3PMSF rated), good Highland performance, lower cost than BFG KO2.
• General Grabber AT3: good value AT option, 3PMSF rated.
• Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain: solid mid-range AT choice.

Mud-Terrain (MT) Tyres

Highly aggressive tread with large voids for deep mud clearance. Very poor on tarmac — noisy, prone to aquaplaning, and significantly worse fuel economy. Only appropriate for Rangers used heavily off-road.

Not recommended for Scottish daily driving conditions — an AT tyre performs better in Scotland's specific mix of muddy tracks, wet tarmac, and motorway use.
